Apologetics in Catholicism
There's a new breed of heretics in Catholicism who call themselves apologists. Apologetics means the use of theology for the defense of the religion.
The reason I call them heretics is because they promote a slant which is not correct Catholicism. There is such an ocean of alternative realities in Catholicism, that the unwary might not know which version is supposed to be correct. But there is a test for correctness for any set of realities. Those realities which have consistent relationships between them are linked to truth. The new breed of apologists have developed a line of propaganda oriented for the purpose of bring out the authoritarian power mongering which is characteristic of the Church's history. Mongering power through authoritarianism is a process of attacking all of the real purposes that the religion is supposed to have, which is primarily to overcome sin through truth about it. Mongering power is like selling snake root oil. Power is the drug that promotes sin. It's easy to peddle, because power is the supposed cure-all for everything. All forms of corruption are promoted not by creating realities but by removing existing realities. The extreme example is worshipping wooden idols. Worshipping wood disconnects the mind from existing realities, so the persons who speak for the wood can control the dupes more easily. The way the apologists do it is by attacking any real concerns or correct theology with a barrage of irrelevant theology. Promoting irrelevant theology is like worshipping wood. In Catholicism, irrelevant theology is as abundant as wood in the forest. They pretend that it is Catholicism because it is theology. What is put in place of truth and relevance is authoritarianism. You might think the apologists have no authority. No Virginia; authoritarianism grows like an ameba, because it is passed down to anyone who promotes it. Authoritarianism is promoted by using the rhetoric that goes with it. The Church isn't just the Church, it's The One Holy Roman Catholic Church, as if they were auditioning to become the pope. One of their purposes is to reverse the attempt of Vatican II to harmonize Catholicism and Protestantism. For doing that, they created a line of propaganda which says "ecumenical" did not mean reaching out to Protestants; it meant all of the bishops would attend. To bolster that argument, they point out that there was a first ecumenical council which had nothing to do with Protestants. They use encyclopedias of information, while they don't quite notice that the document of Vatican II titled Ecumenism states "The restoration of unity among all Christians is one of the principle concerns of the Second Vatican Council." (first sentence of the Introduction). A few sentences later it says, "Taking part in this movement, which is called ecumenical..." In that propaganda and authoritarianism is an absence of the truth that Christ taught about overcoming sin or the theology aligned upon that purpose, which can also be found in the oceans of Catholic theology. It's important to realize that constructive results involve a totally different landscape, where people increase their understanding through study, rituals and actions aligned upon constructivity and overcoming sin. |
