The Apocalypse
The apocalypse is about corrupt persons, not believers. It is a destruction of the world by corrupt persons. It does not have a constructive purpose. It occurs because the moral world cannot control a world of sin dominated by satan.
Guessing at the FutureThe fundamentalist interpretation of the apocalypse is to integrate God's work into worldly affairs. God doesn't mix his affairs with the world, because the world is controlled by satan, and its standards are based on sin. In regard to taxes, Christ said "Give to ceasar what is ceasar's, and to God what is God's" (Mat 22:21). Certainly God maintains inconspicuous influences for his purposes, but that leaves his concerns separate from worldly concerns. There are no indications in the Scriptures of supernatural events during the apocalypse. If a "rapture", where believers are raised into heaven, is materially visible, as some persons claim, it will occur after the apocalypse, not during it. Fundamentalists claim that God's kingdom will be created in Jerusalem during the apocalypse. That's absurd. The Bible describes a symbolic and spiritual restoration, not a worldly phenomenon. Christ said his kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36). The sequence of events during the apocalypse is as follows: First, there are preapocalyptic events. They consist of an economic collapse, starvation and disease, wars and rumors of wars and earthquakes and volcanos (created by satan, because he knows his time is short). The social disturbances lead to a limited nuclear war. It destroys one third of the planet including (symbolically) one third of the fish in the oceans and one third of the ships on the sea. The emphasis on one third means it is quite limited for a nuclear war. The limited nuclear war marks the beginning of a seven year event which is the apocalypse. There are two halves to the apocalypse: The first three and one-half years is referred to as a persecution of believers. The second three and one-half years is referred to as the wrath of God. After the nuclear war, a world government forms. It is headed by a world ruler who is very arrogant, and he is supported by a false prophet who works for satan but claims to represent God. They put believers do death under a pretense of working for God. Everyone has to put three sixes on their right hand or forehead to buy or sell anything. Believers refuse to do so, because it is a sign of satan. After three and one-half years of persecution of believers, a second event occurs. It is first observed in the sky giving a slight forewarning. It then results in a plague of stones falling from the sky, which lasts another three and one-half years. Nearly all life is destroyed by the stones falling from the sky. Based on modern science, the only possible source of the falling stones would be Jupiter exploding. Large planets can explode, which is how the asteroid belt was created. Much of the soil which is layered on the surface of the earth apparently fell from the sky when a planet exploded in the asteroid belt. This event apparently occurred before Pangea formed more than a billion years ago. After the plague of falling stones destroys nearly all life, satan is said to be put in chains. Satan's chains would consist of no significant material life to subdue and dominate. But satan's chains only last a thousand years. That means material life redevelops after a thousand years. After material life redevelops, which releases satan's chains, a war breaks out between satan's group and believers. The war lasts a "short while," and then fire comes down from heaven and destroys them all. The reason why God allows that chain of events is because the apocalypse is used as a method of separating the moral world from the sin world. The apocalypse is like a cell dividing. Before the apocalypse, good and evil are mixed together; after the apocalypse, they are separated and temporarily fight each other. |
