Understanding Morality by Comparison and Contrast

To understand morality, it has to be compared to the false substitute which is promoted by satan. Power is the substitute which satan promotes.

To persons who seek power, satan is of greatest worth, because he has power rivaling God's. He (and persons like him in the human society) uses that power to control and exploit gullible persons. And he teaches them how to strive for power through corruption.

By contrast, to persons who seek life, worth is in capabilities. Life is complex. To sustain life requires demanding capabilities. Meeting those demands is morality. Morality is learning how to sustain life.

To corrupters who strive for power, there is no reason to acquire constructive capabilities, because sin is the shortest route to power. So they flaunt their corruption shamelessly.

Therefore, the biggest challenge in promoting morality is convincing anyone that morality is relevant. Why do something difficult, when sin yields power so readily?

Notice that Paul did not teach people how to be moral. He taught justification, which is rationalization of immorality. His trivial admonishing did not explain the complexities of morality.

So the followers of Paul assume there is nothing to learn or do to improve their morality. They supposedly enter an elite category of being born again when they suitably repent, and then everything they do is supposedly the work of the Holy Spirit.

Sustaining life is not so automatic. Learning what sin is and how to avoid and overcome it is difficult and often never accomplished.

So there are two types of worth. Corrupted worth is the ability to acquire power. Worth that is real and lasting is the ability to function constructively by criteria of sustaining life.

One sees these differences instantly in human relations, particularly communication. There are constructive ways and destructive ways to communicate. Constructive communication is explaining one's claims showing evidence which can be evaluated objectively. Destructive communication is making claims which are subjective (like ridicule or self-praise) with no explanations or evidence. The truth cannot be established without objective evidence.

Before anyone can be taught how to go from subjective accusers to rational contributors, the relevance of morality has to be accepted. The relevance of morality is often not accepted beyond false pretenses, even within Christianity.

The false pretenses of morality within Christianity include opposing abortions while claiming to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit. The falseness stems from a rejection of any concept that morality is something that needs to be studied, learned and developed. When it automatically takes care of itself, it's not morality.

A false concept about morality is that it can be determine by feel. Supposedly, that which feels right to self-righteous persons is morality. Supposedly, their conscience makes morality feel good, or maybe "Natural Law" does.

The problem with determining morality by feel is that sin feels good to corrupted persons. Sin is developed through psychological conditioning with power as the positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcements feel good regardless of whether they are constructive or destructive.

Because sin can be made to feel good, satan's crew controls and corrupts gullible persons by entertaining them. One of the few things corrupted persons can do with their power is entertain people. So they set up schemes for entertainment including partying, drugs, alcohol and sexual sin. It's the primary occupation of corrupted persons. And it makes the victims feel good, at least while they are being corrupted.

The main reason why sin and morality matter is because people carry their concerns and characteristics into the spirit world when they die. Numerous persons have been directly observing that result in their "afterlife" or "near death" experiences. Each person ends up with the same problems in the spirit world that they had while in human life. So overcoming the problems in human life is extremely important.
