What Christ Said About Atonement
Paul's theology of atonement says sin was taken care of on the cross; and therefore "works" are not related to salvation. Christ said, (Mat 16:27) "...he will repay each man according to his conduct." Conduct and works are the same thing. Works matter, because conduct matters. Conduct is relevant, when each man is repayed according to his conduct. John 8:51 "I solemnly assure you, if a man is true to my word he shall never see death." Not seing death means getting saved. To get saved, people have to be true to Christ's words. He taught people how to be moral. Mat 5:20 "I tell you, unless your holiness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees you shall not enter the Kingdom of God." It means people do not get saved without being moral. An example of what people are supposed to do is the parable of the good Samaritan. It goes as follows: Luke 10:30-37 Jesus replied: "There was a man going down from Jerusalem to Jerico who fell prey to robbers. They stripped him, beat him, and then went off leaving him half-dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road; he saw him but continued on. 32 Likewise there was a Levite who came the same way; he saw him and went on. 33 But a Samaritan who was journeying along came on him and was moved to pity at the sight. 34 He approached him and dressed his wounds, pouring in oil and wine. He then hoisted him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, where he cared for him. 35 The next day he took out two silver pieces and gave them to the innkeeper with the request: 'look after him, and if there is any further expense I will repay you on my way back.' 36 "Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the man who fell in with the robbers?" 37 The answer came,"The one who treated him with compassion." Jesus said to him, "Then go and do the same." Christ gave a command to do something. This parable was given in response to the question of what needs to be done to "inherit everlasting life," which means to get saved (Luke 10:25). On judgement day, the saved are separated from the unsaved on the basis of the works that they did, as stated in Mathew 25:31-46. "Then he will separate them into two groups, as a shepherd separates sheep from goats. 33 The sheep he will place on his right hand, the goats on his left. 34 The King will say to those on his right: 'Come You have my father's blessing! Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 naked and you clothed me. I was ill and you comforted me, in prison and you came to visit me.' 37 Then the just will ask him: 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or see you thirsty and give you drink? 38 When did we welcome you away from home or clothe you in your nakedness? 39 When did we visit you when you were ill or in prison?' 40 The king will answer them: 'I assure you, as often as you did it for one of my least brothers, you did it for me." 41 "Then he will say to those on his left: 'Out of my sight, you condemned, into that everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! 42 I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink. 43 I was away from home and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing. I was ill and in prison and you did not come to comfort me.' 44 Then they in turn will ask: 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or away from home or naked or ill or in prison and not attend you in your needs?' 45 He will answer them: 'I assure you, as often as you neglected to do it to one of these least ones, you neglected to do it to me.' 46 These will go off to eternal punishment and the just to eternal life." This description of judgement day clearly states that whether anyone gets saved depends upon the works that they did in human life. For Paul to say otherwise is a fraud upon society. If he wants to create his own religion, he has every right to do so; but to call his fraud Christianity is an assault upon God's religion.Fundamentalism Blood and Remission |
