Ethereal Religion is not Enough, because Results Matter
It should not be necessary to look to Scriptures to determine that results matter. Results are what people pay money for. Results are what people fight over. In fact, this is why the destructive results of corruption need to be concealed, denied or rationalizedpeople react negatively to destructive results. Destructive results one place are a threat to everyone everyplace. This is the basis of law. It says that the wrongs must be prevented all of the time, everywhere, regardless of who the victims are.
For this reason, the most evil persons are preoccupied with falsifying results. Do not murderers try to hide the corps? Do not swindlers try to trick people into assuming they will gain something from the deal?
And this is why Christ linked all of morality to results. Without the results, there is no test of truth. Christ said, "Everyone who practices evil hates the light; he does not come near it for rear his deeds will be exposed. But he who acts in truth comes into the light, to make clear that his deeds are done in God" (John 3:20,21). It says evil persons conceal their results in darkness, while moral persons expose their results to the light of openness.
All false forms of Christianity attempt to bury the results of sin in darkness, so the evil is not exposed. First, there is a denial that sin is what it is. Then an etheric purpose replaces the need for morality. All false forms of Christianity do these two thingsthey deny the truth about sin and replace it with an ethereal purpose.
The most ethereal versions of Christianity are at the outer fringes, where they are usually called spirituality, and this blends into occultism and evil. Closer to the core of the problem is the theology of Paul. Paul tried to theologically erase the truth which Christ taught. So we need to compare Christ's teaching and Paul's to see how results are replaced with ethereal purposes.
Christ said that his followers put his words into practice (Luke 6:47). Practice means producing results. He said it is like building a house on a foundation (Luke 6:48). And he said he teaches a path to life (Mat 7:14).
The reason is because morality cannot be defined, tested or improved without results. In the absence of results is the fakery of corrupters, like the hypocrites whose words are bold but deeds are few (Mat 23:4). They build up their public image, while they "shut the doors of the kingdom of God in men's faces, neither entering (themselves) nor admitting those who are trying to enter." (Mat 23:5-14).
Christ said, "The greatest among you will be the one who serves the rest." (Mat 23:11)(Mark 10:42-45).
So why does Paul claim people are saved by faith and not works? (Gal 2:16)(Eph 2:9). He doesn't just trivialize works, he tries to make an argument against works, saying that no one will be justified by works of the law. He then says that faith in Christ replaces "the law." He equates law and works.
So what does Paul consider faith to be? He said it is to be "clothed" in Christ (Gal 3:27). He personifies faith as Christ, saying "now that faith is here" (Gal 3:25). It's something about Christ. It's ethereal.
But the ethereal nature of false Christianity is not limited to complex abstractions which are hard to understand; it is the entire subject. It is synthesizing a religion out of claims which can never be substantiated. Like the claim that sin is disobedience to God. Where does that come from? It's a circular logic which is supposed to stand on its own merit. Certainly, God would not want someone to sin; therefore, doing what God does not want is sin.
The falsehood and motive of this contrived theology shows up in the results. The hypocrites create a false image of doing what God wants through piety, while they destroy life for others. And of course, they say (or imply), prove it. And this is what the ethereal religion is all about. Supposedly, there is no proof of morality, since works are relegated to corruption by nature.
The only reason why this path works so slick for hypocrites is because of the bliss of power. With the bliss of power, what one fails to do destroys life. To acquire power, resources are stolen, and enemies are subdued. Then doing nothing leaves the vanquished dying in the gutters.
One of the most important facts about morality is that it would be exactly the same if there were no God. But there would be one important differenceno one would get saved. God doesn't create sin, he creates life by overcoming sin.
