Faith and Reason

While the previous pope created a document titled "Faith and Reason," Protestants have been focusing on a similar line of propaganda for the same purpose. The purpose is to convince people that they should not develop rationality on their own without having reality determined for them by sources who supposedly speak for God. Getting reality from those who speak for God is said to be the essence of faith.

The argument starts with a half-truth—that atheists cannot figure things out properly without God's wisdom. That's partially true, but atheists still have the responsibility to be rational and improve their rationality, because life requires it. In small ways, they sometimes increase their rationality. But since the purpose of religious power mongers is to attack rationality, some additional absurdities are added to the brew.

Faith adds the viola. To the pope, as indicated in his document, faith means him doing the speaking. To Protestant fundamentalists (the only type remaining) faith means getting the meaning from the Bible, as their authorities interpret it, and no other way.

The end point and purpose is to discredit reason and its product, knowledge. Reason and knowledge are closely related to truth, which convicts corrupters of sin. The fix is to add mystery, which someone else supposedly has figured out, but which little bitty humans should not concern themselves with. In fact, Buddhists make the same argument. They discredit knowledge as being inferior to something they cannot describe about their end point of achievement.

The result is that a logical description with objective observations as evidence is opposed by corrupters of religin. It's supposedly an insult to God's knowledge for humans to compete with him. Science is trashed for this reason. But change the context slightly, and fundamentalists tell the courts that they can out-science the scientists in proving that God created all life six thousand years ago. The virtues of self-contradiction are supposedly one of the attributes of faith.

Christ is not the reference used for such corruption of faith, Paul is. Christ's version of faith, reason and knowledge is exactly the same as in science. Christ created the philosophical basis for science by teaching people to look and find as the method of acquiring knowledge (Mat 7:8, 13:15) (Mark 8:18)(John 4:35). He stressed the importance of knowledge by saying he who has (knowledge) will acquire more, while he who has not will lose what little he thinks he has (Mat 13:12)(Luke 8:18). And he condemned the authorities of his time for closing the doors to knowledge, not entering themselves and inhibiting those who wish to enter (Luke 11:52).

Christ said people need to judge for themselves what is just, just as they judge the signs of the weather (Luke 12:57). Judging based on signs is using objective evidence for rationality.

Christ said believers understand what they worship (John 4:22). Understanding is not mystery; it is knowledge of objective reality. Christ often mentioned the need to understand (Mat 15:10)(Mark 4:13, 7:14, 8:21)(Luke 24:45)(John 8:43).

The claim that rationality is not valid without some fraudulent test of faith is to play God in judging people and their relationship to God or their faith. Instead of meeting their own human responsibilities, corrupters want to play God and speak for God. If they can't speak rationally for themselves, they can't speak rationally for God.

A key element of this argument, which is so concealed and indirect that it almost changes the subject, is that there is no way to determine the difference between correct faith in God from worship of satan without correct knowledge. Knowledge has to precede correct faith. The fraud of attacking rationality is nothing but worship of satan being called faith in God.
