Fundamentalism Analogy

Fundamentalism is similar to the following joke, which was voted the best in a study. Two guys were out hunting, and one of them fell to the ground and appeared to be dead. The other ran to a phone and called 911. He told the operator his friend fell to the ground and appears to be dead. The operator said, "Calm down; I can help you. First, let's be sure he is dead." The guy said OK and left the line. A gunshot was heard, and he came back on. He said, "OK, now what?"

Did the operator tell the guy to shoot his friend in the head? By fundamentalist standards, that's what she said. Saying to make sure he is dead is the same as saying to shoot him in the head. How else do you make sure he is dead? Fundamentalists interpret Scriptures with that type of logic.

Here's another joke like fundamentalism. A guy was being evaluated by a shrink. The shrink drew a square and said, "What does that remind you of?" The guy said, "Sex." The shrink drew a circle and said, "What does that remind you of?" The guy said, "Sex." The shrink drew a triangle and said, "What does that remind you of?" The guy said, "Sex." The shrink said, "Your problem is that you have sex on the brain." The guy said, "You are the one who drew the dirty pictures."

This is the mentality of creationists. They assume they can out-science the scientists, because they have God on their side. Genesis says dinosaurs existed six thousand years ago, and they were killed off by an ice age.

Fundamentalists start with the theology of Paul, because it is designed to justify sin, which is what they want to do. They then interpret the rest of the Bible as if the purpose were to justify sin.

The purpose of the rest of the Bible is not to justify sin but to overcome sin. It's necessary to start with Christ's words as the reference instead of Paul's words to get the correct perspective.
