In God's Image Supposedly, everyone was created in God's image, and therefore, satan is supposed to be loved to pieces, along with everyone else but the terrorists, communists and criminals. The death penalty is strongly promoted by the believers in the "God's image" ethic. Genesis describes God's act of creation saying: "Let us make man in our image." (Gen 1:26) This phrase is commonly interpreted to mean that God created everyone flawlessly perfect and moral. There are a lot of questions raised by such an assumption, but they are never evaluated. Without evaluation, assumptions are poured in concrete and mindlessly absurd. The Book of Genesis begins with a description of the creation of the material universe. It says nothing about the creation of spiritual beings. And it is an ultra simplistic allegory with extremely limited purposes. It didn't say whether the earth was round or flat. It didn't say whether spiritual being were created when human bodies were created. So where does the "us" come from in saying "Let us make man in our image"? The us is supposed to include angels who exist with God in heaven. When did he create the angels? Such simplistic allegories have more of a purpose of erasing questions than answering them. Erasing questions has the purpose of setting those subjects aside, so more important matters can be focussed upon. Instead of setting such questions aside, Fundamentalists, or conservative Christians, use them as the foundation of their beliefs, which includes creationism. The image being referred to is the human body, which includes two legs, two arms, a head with ears and eyes. This form is the universal image used by spiritual beings in the spirit world. In truth, the molecular requirements shape the spiritual tradition, while the slogan implies the opposite. Implying the opposite of the truth is sarcasm, which characterized the writers of the Scriptures. When spiritual being develop their souls in a material body, the spirit tends to acquire an appearance similar to the body. For this reason, some of the angels in heaven have an appearance similar to animals. Angels develop their souls in animal bodies, where they cannot be touched by sin. Humans are typically spiritual beings who were exposed to sin in an ancient spirit world, and they need to overcome sin through human existence. But a lot of other spiritual being enter the human society also. Therefore, "in God's image" says nothing about the spirit or morality. It refers to the image of the body. Sin began in an ancient spirit world, and material life was created for the purpose of overcoming the sin. This means humans do not begin their material lives in a perfect state similar to God's. They start their human lives with the sin which they are supposed to overcome. Humans are someplace in the middle of the process of overcoming sin. First, they acquire basic concepts of right-and-wrong, which goes on for many life-times and includes existence in the animal world. |
