Guessing at the Future

This subject is God's business and beyond the scope of humans. But I'm making some guesses in the area, because imagination tends to run wild and follows a lot of erroneous paths.

Isaac Asimov, the famous science fiction writer, took a stab at this subject with a short story called "Nightfall." There was a planet which had eleven suns and therefore was always in daylight. Once every thousand years society would destroy itself. No one knew why, until some scientists figured it out. An eclipse would occur creating darkness. It would cause everyone to panic and burn everything down trying to create light. So the scientists were in their laboratory creating an instrument to solve the problem. But a group of religious fanatics had a "Book of Revelations" which said the nightfall had to occur, or their souls would not get saved. So they broke into the laboratory and smashed the instrument of the scientists, and the nightfall occurred again.

Are the Christians smashing the instruments of the scientists to make the apocalypse occur? The Book of Revelation in the Bible does not say the apocalypse has the purpose of saving anyone's souls.

Something resembling the apocalypse could not be prevented, because corrupters cannot be prevented from destroying all material life eventually. As the Bible indicates from one cover to the other, the world is dominated by satan, who assumes he owns it. He can't stand to see a molecule of life existing. Less corrupted persons are destroying life in a less determined manner.

The apocalypse does have a consequence which is beneficial. It separates the moral world from the sin world. It's like a cell dividing.

Some persons don't seem to realize that only after the moral world and sin world separate can moral life be significantly developed. Very little can be accomplished to create morality under present conditions of human life, because the forces of evil are so overwhelming.

This point calls for a slight diversion. If you send two people out, one to create an automobile, and one to destroy an automobile, one will come back in short order, and the other will never succeed. That's because destroying complex realities is far easier than creating them. Satan and the destroyers who he controls have that advantage.

After the apocalypse, most, but not all, human life is destroyed. It takes a thousand years to redevelop human life. This information is coded in the Book of Revelation by saying that satan is put in chains for a thousand years (Rev 20:2). Satan's chains consist of an absence of human life to dominate. How do I know? Because there isn't any other way to put satan in chains. God wouldn't think of zapping satan with a destructive force, as satan does to others.

When human life redevelops, a thousand years after the apocalypse, the moral world and evil world are separated. This is known from Revelation which says satan's crew fights a war against the city where God's people reside (Rev 20:9).

Considering that material life has the purpose of overcoming sin, The temporary state where the moral world and sin world are separated would have the purpose of allowing humans to develop moral characteristics in an environment free from significant sin, which is not possible under present conditions.
