Legalisms are used in Worldly Christianity Christianity is presented in the world through legalism. This means quotes are used to determine the meaning. Such legalism can never be adequate. For this reason, Christ taught through understanding. Understanding is the proper alternative to legalism. All legalisms are certain to be inadequate and lead to error, simply because they are extremely narrow; and yet they replace understanding which is unlimited. For example, Christ said, "Not the smallest letter of the law is to be done away with." (Mat 5:18). So worldly persons look for the law to see what it consists of. They look to the laws presented by Moses including the Ten Commandments. Christ didn't say what law was to be maintained; his just said "the" law. The law means the universal laws which make up the objective realities of life. Elements of the universal law are scattered through the Old Testament and include the Ten Commandments. But the Old Testament also includes a lot of human law and false statements added by the lying Scribes, which do not properly or adequately represent the universal laws. So Christ was not describing what the law consists of; he was saying that whatever the law is is what is being maintained. Once this foundational concept is in place, it is the perpetual challenge to determine what the laws of existence are. The starting point is the Ten Commandments, so they serve as the example. This perspective is important, because Paul was saying that the whole concept of law was abandoned by Christ and that law is a corruption. (Rom 4:15, 7:1). Whether Paul was right or wrong is not a question of legalism to be determined by scouring the Scriptures. It's determined through objective reality. The laws of the universe cannot be abandoned, and Paul was a fraud in teaching otherwise regardless of what anything in the Bible says. Christ taught the laws of the universe, which must be determined through understanding, not legalism. When adding objective, universal realities to the subject instead of absurd legalism, Paul's teaching of the pagan religion of sacrifice was obviously a corruption. And Paul speaking for Christ was obviously a corruption. |
