Erroneous Definition of Morality

Morality is that which sustains life. Life is ordered existence. It is sustained by solving problems.

Fundamentalists define morality in an incorrect way. They say morality is adhering to God's word. Their definition is false, because morality goes beyond God. There would be a moral requirement for all human interactions even if there were no God; and in fact, people often do not know what God's will is, or they do not agree on God's will or how it is determined. Yet there is still a moral requirement for their interactions with each other.

There are two major significances to the false concept of morality. One, it is used to justify sin by disagreeing on God's will, while a source such as the Bible is used to rationalize a false interpretation of morality. And two, it is used to promote and justify atheism. Atheists cannot directly oppose moral truth, so they oppose morality in a tangential way by denying the existence of God. If then, morality is following God's will, and there is no God, they are free to reconstruct an ethic, which they call secular humanism.

The fact that atheists construct secular humanism shows that humans have responsibilities to each other independent of the existence of God. How could they not? Could murder, lying or any other sin be virtue in the absence of God? Not hardly. The criminal codes show that everyone including atheists need basic standards of constructivity in their interactions.

Christ described every element of morality in terms of the human responsibility to humans. "What you do to they least of your brothers, you do to me" (Mat 25:40). Ultimately, it is feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, etc. which determines who gets saved (Mat 25:31-46).
