The basis of science is logic. But the usual assumption is that the basis of science is observation. Observations are allowed to contradict logic throughout science. Relativity and prions are the largest examples.

There is often a tendency to view logic as trickery. Propagandists shape logic for their purposes, so there are numerous versions of logic.

By contrast, observations seem so reliable. A common slogan says "seeing is believing." For simple observations, it seems that the eye cannot be tricked. People would be surprised how often the eye is tricked for even the most simple observations. In the abstractions of science, there is no such thing as a reliable observation without the logic that gives it meaning.

To get to the truth, it is necessary to carefully determine the nature of all concepts involved.

Logic is the strictest application of reason. Reason is a process of making relationships between realities. Relationships create the context and meaning of realities. Correctness of relationships show truth. Truth is defined by consistent relationships between realities.

Perception is a preliminary acquisition of data. It is not reliable until tested with evaluation based on logic. Logic is the test of accuracy, not perception; and therefore, the defining basis of scientific validity is logic, not perception.

The most important thing about the subject of reason is to recognize the difference between the process and the result. A correct process is a prerequisite for getting a correct result.

Reason is not only the process needed for constructivity, it is a self-regulating process that automatically leads to improved results. Making relationships to evidence and all related points guarantees that realities improve.

The purpose of reason is to unify reality. Reality is unified primarily in minds, but the results show up in all evaluations and communication mediums.

Unification of reality occurs automatically whenever realities interact, because consistent relationships support each other, and inconsistent relationships contradict each other.

Reason might be high quality or low quality. Quality reason is rationality. The quality is improved through objectivity and consistent relationships between realities.

Before there could be science, there had to be a value for rationality. After science existed, it developed a greater value in society for rationality and exposed the corruptness of irrationality. People nowdays have a general expectation of a degree of rationality.

Rationality and its related values had to precede science, because it created the need to determine truth as an objective set of realities which could be evaluated and improved through evidence. This direction might seem innate and always existing to modern western minds, but not so.

Rationality exposes corruption. Therefore, corrupters develop a habit of combating rationality.

Historically, the battle against rationality is seen scattered throughout human endeavors. One of the earliest examples is found in Buddhism. It highlights the result, being a philosophical endeavor.

Modern Buddhists (responding the the demands of modern scientific standards of thought) claim their purpose is to show evidence for reality through rational analysis. But the standards broke down from the start. Instead of consistent relationships, contradictions are exploited to feign superior knowledge. Among their fluid realities they claim that existence is really nonexistence, that existence beyond matter is not really spiritual, that good and evil do not really exist, while stealing, selfishness, etc. are corruptions to be overcome.

Such contradictions are examples of irrationality. Science cannot exist with those standards. If contradictions indicate superior knowledge, then testing the results through experiment is heresy.

Of course, the same occurred in Christianity. Christ was crucified for supposedly breaking the Ten Commandments, and Galileo was persecuted for supposedly contradicting the Bible. Tyranny demanded irrationality.

Tyranny sweeps through power structures including science, when there is insufficient accountability to create truth. Tyranny creates a motive for breaking down the rationality of science.

Prions are an example that is easy to understand. A protein called a prion without genetic material supposedly creates a complex series of diseases related to Mad Cow disease, while all biology demonstrates that natural selection will not allow genetic diseases to get beyond one mutation. There are hundreds of prion researchers. They say their experimental results (nothing but junk science) take precedence over basic laws such as natural selection. That's irrationality steamrolling over rationality.

Such audacity in biology stemmed from a huge success with similar irrationality in deriving the principles of relativity in physics. Near the starting point of relativity, physicists claim that the velocity of light is determined by the receiving point. Supposedly, the velocity is determined after the light travels. Effect precedes cause. That assumption is not allowed anyplace in rational thought. It is extremely irrational.

There is not a scientific reason, such as experimental evidence or laws of nature, for making the assumption that the velocity of light is determined by the receiving point. The rationale is that a supposed experiment (more junk science) showed there is no medium in space controlling the speed of light, and starting points for light have different velocities, so they cannot create the fixed velocity that is assumed to exist. Therefore deduction leaves only the receiving point.

But the receiving point has all of the flaws in logic of the starting point (numerous velocities) plus the absurdity of effect preceding cause. So the receiving point was chosen on the basis of extreme irrationality, not on valid science.

Nowdays, physicists claim they find experimental evidence that relativity is a correct theory, but the experiments are more junk science, such as a few parts per billion aberration in the motion of Mercury, or screwy relationships between clocks in space—results that charlatans are always going to find after claiming effect precedes cause in the motion of light.

Another rationale for claiming relativity is correct is Einstein's ability to predict. He said light would bend around stars, which was later found to be correct. Guess what. For a few bucks you can get palm readers at a carnival to tell you what type of car you drive, when your birthday was, etc. Science was supposed to replace the witchcraft with verifiable results. Instead, modern science is making the sorcerers look like amateurs at witchcraft.
