Here's a template for a start page on a browser. It's for links that are used often. Click to See Start Page This page has the advantage of putting a large number of links in clear view. Several columns can be used for various subjects. I'll describe how to edit the Start Page for persons who have no familiarity with html coding. Step 1. Store page in a folder. When the page has been downloaded and is visible on browser, view the source page (Edit/Source or View/Source). Then "save as" (File/Save As) while sending to desired folder. Step 2. Make it the Home Page for browser. With Windows Explorer, click (or double click) on the Start Page file. Be sure the suffix is html. Rename it if it isn't. It will then open on the browser. While visible on browser, set as home page this way: Tools (or Edit)/ options/ general/ "use current page for Home Page." Step 3. Edit the Start Page. While Start Page is visible on the browser, view its source page (View/Source). If you are using MS IE browser, it will show the source page on Notepad, which is the easiest way to edit it. Netscape will show an editing page. If you run into trouble editing with something other than Notepad, you can switch to Notepad by starting with it, then File/ Open/ File Type = All Types/ browse for the page. An html suffix will open on Notepad. Step 4. Change column headings. The column headings originally say News, Search, etc... Those headings can be changed to anything. On the source page, at the top of each column, and between two bold symbols (b)...(/b) is the word to be changed, such as "Search." Just remove the word "Search" and replace it with the word to be used for that column. Then hit the save button (File/Save). Then view the browser and hit the refresh (or reload) button. The change will be visible on the browser. Step 5. Change colors. Colors can be changed by copy and paste. Colors are six number and letter combinations near the words "color" or "bgcolor." Take the color number from one location and use it to replace another one. Move only the six digits (like 77dd55), so as to not accidentally alter the nearby symbols. Step 6. Add more links. Links can come from the Internet or your own computer. To prevent errors, it's best to copy and paste directly from the address bar of the browser. These addresses are pasted between the quote marks in each slot. There are fifteen slots shown for each column. You can add any number through copy and paste. After the address is in place, you have to add something that you can see for representing it. Type a word in between the bold symbols. Two examples are shown for a couple of news journals.
